About ProCare

ProCare Health Plan, Inc. (ProCare) is currently the only 100% African-American owned Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) in the State of Michigan. ProCare was certified as a Clinic Plan in October 1996, a Qualified Health Plan in 1998, and a licensed HMO in December 2000.

ProCare has experience in managed care practice as attested to by its experience as a Qualified Health Plan. ProCare has provided medical care to more than 10,000 indigent Medicaid recipients in 40 counties throughout Michigan from 1998-2000. Currently ProCare is providing three health care programs for over 10,000 Wayne County residents.

ProCare Health Plan, Inc. has dedicated, experienced, and well-trained staff who have been involved in managed care practice for many years. Our Customer/Member Services Departments are adequate and ProCare has scored well on the State Medicaid Program customer satisfaction surveys.

ProCare is licensed by the State of Michigan as an HMO to offer health coverage to Medicaid beneficiaries in Wayne County. ProCare has an adequate provider network that includes physicians in all specialties in and out of the Wayne County area. The office locations and Urgent Care Centers are strategically located to provide accessibility to health care for all patients.

Quality Assurance and Utilization Review are major areas of importance to Pro Care. Our experience and level of staffing enables us to participate in the health initiatives sponsored by the Michigan Association of Health Plans and the Department of Community Health such as colon rectal screening, and lead poisoning.

ProCare’s MIS team has vast experience in managed care practice and provides all reports necessary to allow for ongoing monitoring of the quality of care being provided in the most cost effective manner.

ProCare wants its members’ medical needs fully met and recognize that our providers are key to achieving this goal. Pro Care is able to provide cost effective medical care because of limited administrative cost. ProCare is able to pass this along to the providers, and the providers are more willing to take care of our members.

Recently, ProCare has been involved in community activities such as the NAACP Health Expo and has participated in health fairs and blood pressure screenings in churches throughout the City of Detroit. A few of the network providers are on panels that volunteer services for health seminars and writing articles for health newsletters.
